It Is Time For a Ceasefire – More Violence Can Never Be the Solution.

UNAMA’s latest report confirms that the situation in war-torn Afghanistan is dire. It recorded 5,183 civilian casualties in the first half of 2021, with 1,659 deaths and 3,524 injuries – a 47% increase on the same period last year.

Record numbers that define this conflict, where innocent people cannot escape harm from the endless fighting.

Many of the civilian casualties documented in the report are people who have been treated in EMERGENCY’s wards –  we admitted 1,853 war victims in the first four months of 2021 alone in Kabul and Lashkar-Gah. In the midst of extremely difficult circumstances, we remain determined to continue providing healthcare in defiance of the conflict.

The war in Afghanistan has entered an even more dangerous new phase. It is time for a ceasefire – more violence can never be the solution.
