Statement: EMERGENCY Saddened by Christchurch Attacks

In the wake of the tragedy in Christchurch, EMERGENCY expresses its sympathy for the families of the victims, and to the people of New Zealand.

The attacker appears to have been influenced by far-right rhetoric and violence around the world. Hatred and racism spread quickly. In the past, they have shaped history, and now they are in danger of shaping the future.

Our ethics must continue to have human beings at their core.

Our starting point must be non-violence, and of the shared rights of all human beings.

We must once more find it in ourselves to stand against conflict, with respect for the dignity of others as our foundation.

We must endeavour, once again, to imagine a different world.
