Strategic Partners EMERGENCY UK and Randal Charitable Foundation Attend UK Global Health Summit
An EMERGENCY delegation including President Rossella Miccio attended the UK Global Health Summit alongside Dr Nik Kotecha OBE DL, Founder and Chair of The Randal Charitable Foundation and powerful advocate for EMERGENCY UK. The Summit, which brought together leaders, professionals and change-makers from government, civil society and the private sector, serves as an important forum to discuss how cross-sectoral collaboration can drive transformative change for a more sustainable and equitable global health system.
With the concept of partnership central to so many of the conversations and panels at the event, EMERGENCY and The Randal Foundation came together to showcase how the organisations are working together to save and improve lives across Afghanistan, Sierra Leone and Uganda.
In addition to meetings with delegations from health ministries, Dr Nik Kotecha and Rossella Miccio delivered a keynote speech on partnership and innovation in the health sector, and the impact of our own strategic partnership.

“My relationship with this conference goes right back to its beginnings,” said Dr Nik Kotecha. “Whether building a global pharmaceutical enterprise or establishing a Foundation for global health impact, I relied on the same core ingredients: entrepreneurial thinking, innovation and an unwavering focus on solving real-world problems. The alignment was clear then, as it is now: a shared commitment to enable affordable access to high-quality healthcare around the world.”
The Randal Charitable Foundation’s mission is to save and significantly improve the lives of one million people in the UK and globally. In 2025, EMERGENCY UK began a three-year strategic partnership with the Randal Foundation which is helping to save and improve tens of thousands of lives through essential support of the free, high-quality medical care provided at EMERGENCY’s hospitals and clinics around the world.

“While for us, for the last 30 years, our goal has been to create a world where we are no longer needed, unfortunately we must be as useful as possible: more than 240 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance,” said Rossella Miccio, President of EMERGENCY, speaking at the UK Global Health Summit. “In the face of such challenges, it was remarkable to meet a likeminded organisation that was – like us – committed to sustainability and to having an impact that was deeply informed. Dr Nik’s own background as a member of a diaspora, but also an entrepreneur, meant a lot for shaping this partnership.”
“The concept of partnership is at the heart of this summit, and the relationship between EMERGENCY and the Randal Foundation shows just how powerful this partnership can be. It’s a proof that strategic philanthropy can change and save lives across the globe,” added Rossella Miccio. In its first year alone, the partnership has helped to support the care of more than 110,000 patients in Afghanistan, Sierra Leone and Uganda – or around one person every minute.

“As I learnt more about EMERGENCY, I saw an organisation that is entrepreneurial in every sense,” concluded Dr Kotecha. “Taking measured risks, building capabilities, developing talent and delivering world-class healthcare in some of the most challenging environments on earth. Their model is also innovative, resilient and deeply human. It embodies an expression I think of often: ‘We make a living by what we get, but we make a life by what we give.’ EMERGENCY build not just facilities but legacies, sustainable systems of care where previously there were none. Again, and again.”
This shared moment at the Summit reaffirmed how vital strong, values-driven partnerships are to improving global health.
