We Will Continue to Take Care of Him.
A. is 13 years old.
He was taking his family’s animals out to pasture when he found a metal object in a field.
He took it home and there, all of a sudden, the object exploded, injuring both him and his mother.
They both arrived at our hospital in Lashkar-Gah, Afghanistan, in critical condition. Their journey took two hours.
A.’s mother had two serious fractures and several injuries. A. was severely injured in the abdomen, suffered leg fractures, and had to have his left forearm amputated.
The injuries he sustained also permanently compromised his urinary system.
We discharged him a few days ago, after he was hospitalised for over two months. He still struggles to walk: we will now wait for him at the hospital for physiotherapy sessions. We will continue to take care of him.
EMERGENCY’s Surgical Centres for War Victims in Kabul and Lashkar-Gah are co-funded by the European Union and the World Health Organization.
