SIERRA LEONE IS EBOLA FREE

The Ebola epidemic has finally ended in Sierra Leone. There have been 42 consecutive days without new cases – the amount of time required to declare a country free of ‪#‎Ebola‬.

The battle against Ebola in Sierra Leone was a tough one, and saw the loss of 3,955 patients and 200 medical staff.

During this battle, EMERGENCY was on the frontline. We opened two treatment centres for Ebola patients in Goderich and Lakka. We also opened an intensive care unit – the only one available for Ebola patients in Western Africa. We worked tirelessly to prevent the spread of Ebola in Waterloo, while continuing to work in our Paediatric and Surgical Centres in Goderich.

We fought hard, and we won.

And now we would like to say thank you. Thank you to all of the Ebola fighters, thank you to our colleagues who kept working relentlessly without ever giving up or losing hope, not even at darkest times.

And most importantly, we want to thank each and everyone of you who supported us! Thank you.
