Happy World Heart Day from EMERGENCY

Happy #WorldHeartDay.

This is Sunia. On 19th April 2007, when she was 14, she underwent cardiac surgery at the Salam Centre for Cardia Surgery in Khartoum, Sudan. Sunia’s valve was damaged for a rheumatic heart desease.

She was our first patient and has become a symbol of our struggle to provide free-of-charge and high-quality cardiac surgery in Africa.

As stated by WHO, rheumatic heart disease is a preventable yet serious public health problem in low- and middle-income countries. And this is our daily action at the Salam Centre.

So, today we are uniting with World Heart Federation to promote heart disease prevention and the need to guarantee free health care to everyone.

“Because we believe every heartbeat matters” World Heart Federation – and we might add, it doesn’t matter where it beats or whose heartbeat is.
