Kabul: Explosion Near The Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

On Monday 27 March, an explosion took place near the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kabul, close to EMERGENCY NGO’s Surgical Centre for War Victims. 12 injured patients, including a child, were brought to the EMERGENCY NGO hospital, as well as two other victims who were already dead on arrival. One of the adults admitted unfortunately passed away in our intensive care unit (ICU). This is the second mass casualty incident that the Kabul Surgical Centre has handled in 2023, following 29 during the course of 2022. 

“So far we have received 12 patients in the hospital and 2 people who were unfortunately already dead on arrival, but activities are still ongoing,” explains Stefano Sozza, EMERGENCY’s Country Director in Afghanistan. “Among the injured, who are all male, is a child. This is the second mass casualty in 2023 handled at our hospital, and both occurred in the nearby area. Once again we are reminded that although the war has ended, we continue to treat victims of violence.” 

During 2022, EMERGENCY treated more than 13,700 patients in its Kabul hospital, including more than 2,700 admissions and over 5,000 surgeries.
