Kabul, First Mass Casualty Of 2023

On Wednesday 11 January at 4pm, there was an explosion near the Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kabul.

47 victims arrived at our Surgical Centre. 43 were admitted and one was treated in the outpatient clinic. 3 people were already dead on arrival: their wounds were too severe.

Given the number of casualties, we also had to set up beds for patients in the kitchens and canteen.

In this video, Stefano Sozza, EMERGENCY’s Country Director in Afghanistan talks about our work to ensure immediate and high-quality care for the people injured during this mass casualty attack.
