KABUL, EXPLOSION IN A MOSQUE: 27 WOUNDED PEOPLE RECEIVED SO FAR AT EMERGENCY’S SURGICAL CENTRE FOR WAR VICTIMS, AMONG THEM A 7-YEAR-OLD BOY

IN AUGUST 2022 ALONE THERE WERE 6 MASS CASUALTIES MANAGED BY EMERGENCY IN KABUL, 16 SINCE THE BEGINNING OF THE YEAR.

FROM AUGUST 2021 TO DATE, MORE THAN 2,000 PEOPLE INJURED BY BULLETS AND EXPLOSIVES RECEIVED AT EMERGENCY’S HOSPITALS, MORE THAN 400 ARE CHILDREN.

Following an explosion in a mosque in the PD17 area of Kabul on 17 August, 27 people were transferred to EMERGENCY’s Surgical Centre for War Victims so far, 3 of whom have died. 

This is the sixth mass casualty incident that EMERGENCY’s hospital in Kabul has managed in August alone, and the 16th since the beginning of the year.

“Following today’s explosion, we admitted 27 patients to our Surgical Centre for War Victims in Kabul, including five minors, one of them a 7-year-old boy,” explains Stefano Sozza, EMERGENCY’s Country Director in Afghanistan. “Two patients arrived dead, one died in the Emergency Room. In the month of August alone, we managed 6 mass casualties in our hospital, with a total of almost 80 patients. Throughout the year, we have continued to receive gunshot injuries, shrapnel injuries, stabbing injuries, and victims of mine and IED explosions on a daily basis. The country is suffering the consequences of a very long conflict that has undermined its future.”
