Iraq: I Found So Many People Around Me (Part II)

Do you remember Aram and the incredible story of his path to recovery after being injured by a landmine? [you can refresh your memory here]

Aram was injured on the Iraq-Iran border aged 20. In 1998, he received his first prosthesis. Fast forward to 2018, and he had enrolled on a specialist training programme offered by EMERGENCY at our Rehabilitation and Social Reintegration Centre in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq.

Well, we have received the great news that his new business, the ‘Amad PVC Cooperative Workshop’, is officially open! Aram now has the opportunity to put the craft he has learned into action and to provide an income for his family.

EMERGENCY’s Rehabilitation and Social Reintegration Centre was founded in Iraq in 1998. It has trained 500 people and established over 300 cooperatives since, alongside ensuring that businesses and workshops have the financial and management support necessary until full autonomy is reached.

The main aim of the Centre is to remove all barriers created by disability and to allow individuals to regain a livelihood for themselves and their families.
