22-year-old Sharifa is one of the thousands of Afghan mothers struggling to overcome the hurdles that are posed by a healthcare system weakened by decades of war, poor facilities, and social and cultural barriers that are difficult to break.
“Our hospital in Kabul is full, so we have 7 extra beds in the English classroom and 10 in the laundry room to be ready in case the flow of patients from #Kunduz continues.
As an additional security measure, we have written ‘EMERGENCY Hospital’ clearly on the roof of the new operating theatre. The writing will be illuminated and each block will have its flag exposed.”
